Every Monday, I send the same text to my group chat: How are we doing?
The first few weeks of the pandemic, we all responded with platitudes like “hanging in there” or updates like “learning to knit.” Now, the texts are longer and more emotional. We no longer feel the need to hold back or put a positive spin on our feelings.
In some ways, that’s better, healthier. But it’s also harder.
We’re all feeling the pain and uncertainty. The proliferation of the vaccine offers some comfort, but it hasn’t erased the fear.
What does next month look like? Next year?
I never needed a crystal ball more, but I’ve also never been more grateful that I don’t have one. Because there’s no preparing for everything in your world to change.
I’ll let the writer of this important essay from Vox — on body size, how the world sees people who are overweight, and who society thinks deserves love — speak for herself:
“For me, the size of my body is a simple fact. I do not struggle with self-esteem or negative body image. I do not lie awake at night, longing for a thinner body or some life that lies 100 pounds out of reach. For me, my body isn’t good or bad; it just is.
But I had never seen a fat woman in love — not in life, not in the media. I had never seen fat women who dated. I had never seen fat women who asserted themselves, whose partners respected them. Because this was uncharted territory, I assumed it was also unexplored. My risk-taking resolution ebbed from my broad, soft body. How could he love me if it meant loving this?”
I love my Peloton (even though I don’t use it as much as I should), and I always marvel at how the female instructors look so put together and so fresh while riding for miles at a sweaty clip. Shape answers our burning questions about their beauty routines and gives us the recommendations that we need on how to help our makeup last through even the most challenging conditions.
When I first spotted this Ann Taylor dress last week, it was completely sold out. With a gorgeous green color and the professional, sleek cut, it’s no wonder. It is now restocked in about eight sizes and selling out fast! Get yours while you still can.
I just started the Under the Influence podcast about the crazy and seemingly unattainable world of the Mom Internet. From determining whether you have a ‘shoppable life’ to how to build the perfect Instagram post, even as a blogger/influencer, I love this peek into the lives of the Mom Influencers of Instagram.
