How do you break out of a funk?
One of the tricks I use is planning something that you can look forward to doing. Ideally, a trip or a big night out. But big things don’t come around that often, I also need to find little extras to put on my calendar — a show I really want to watch, a favorite barista-made beverage, an afternoon walk on a nice day, or a phone call with a friend.
Lately, I’ve been having my nails painted once-a-week. It’s a little bit expensive. It’s a little bit frivolous. But it makes me feel good and it gives me a little break, so it’s worth it.
Next week, try to plan something to look forward to. Maybe it’s small, maybe it’s large, but just knowing it exists can really take a load off of your mind.
One Clothing Thing // Renting clothes seems like a great option if you’re concerned about making eco-friendly choices, but is it really?
The Guardian discusses how a veneer of sustainability is hiding a big secret. Because between dry cleaning chemicals and the carbon expended during shipping, this might be the least ‘green’ alternative to fast fashion.
One Rested Thing // Tired. We’re all tired. Except for, ostensibly, one doctor, whose six tips for getting more rest seem simple enough. After all, who doesn’t want to feel more rested?
Looking for an attractive physical alarm clock, I bought this Hatch one with the sunrise feature after my last one broke.
One Jewelry Thing // Want a bit of sparkle but don’t want to bling it out? These Herkimer diamond studs from one of Amazon’s Handmade Sellers, Lotus Stone, are the perfect alternative. I have a different pair of Herkimer studs, and I get so many compliments and questions about them.
One Workout Thing // A strong core is essential to good physical health. I’ve had a bad lower back most of my 30s, and building up my core muscles helps alleviate that pain. So I was really excited to try these simple barre-inspired core exercises that I can do on my bedroom floor in the mornings.
