One of the things that most people don’t understand about anxiety is that nothing escapes its grasp. Of course, there are activities about which anyone would be anxious — the bar exam, a big work project, etc. — but anxious people have those feelings about everything, even happy and fun things. It’s exhausting.
A law school professor once told me that anxiety and excitement are the same physical reaction with a different emotion attached. And this week, I am having a lot of anxiety. A lot. So I’m trying to reframe these feelings as being excited about new opportunities, and mostly failing. But the only thing to do is to keep trying.
