Trying to get back into a routine after a few weeks off is not simple. The alarm goes off, and the natural temptation is to go back to sleep. But I need to stay in job-mode, so I have the same morning routine.
7:30AM: Alarm. Open e-mail, read Axios AM and The Broadsheet to turn my brain on, or else I will go back to sleep.
7:45AM: Feed and Walk Dogs.
8:00AM: Peloton.
8:30AM: Shower. (Thankfully, I don’t have to wear makeup, a major time savings.)
9:00AM: At Desk.
Simple. Easy. Something I can replicate, even when I just want to go back to sleep.
In related news, we went away for the weekend, and the pup-sitter broke Stella of wanting to get up at 4:30AM. She gets up at 7:00AM now, and it is glorious.
And yes, I tipped him with aggressive gratitude.
One Food Thing // How did a restaurant like Chuck E. Cheese survive the pandemic? Simple: Wings.
Chuck E. Cheese, like many chain restaurants, are capitalizing on the ‘ghost kitchen’ trend. These ghosts are restaurants that exist to fulfill delivery orders via DoorDash or Postmates, no brick and mortar location. So a restaurant like Denny’s can become Burger Den, and just like that, people think they’re shopping at a mom-and-pop local restaurant. The Verge has the full explainer.
One Interesting Thing // I’m an introvert who would rather drink hemlock than make chit-chat at a party full of acquaintances. My husband is an extrovert who couldn’t exist in silence for 90-minutes if I paid him money. But this article from The Atlantic shows that introverts and extroverts can learn a lot from each other, and that acting against instinct, may be the secret to happiness.
