#BreakThings: The Longest Day
It’s difficult to believe that today is the first day of summer, but here we are. Maybe it’s all in my head, but the older I get, the shorter summer feels. So I am determined to soak up all of it this year. And to that end, I have decided to play softball on my husband’s rec-sports team.
Now, I am not athletically gifted, so I usually avoid sports. It’s been nearly 25 years since I’ve played a team sport. So we’re starting with backyard games of catch and some batting lessons.
It’s humbling to do something so out of my skillset, but who knows? Maybe it’ll be fun. As long as I don’t get hit in the face with a ball, it’ll be fine.
One Appearance Thing // I love Nora Ephron’s book, I Feel Bad About My Neck. It perfectly encapsulated the challenges of aging. But this New York Times’ article raises an important point, that we need to let go of external motivators to change our appearance. How we feel about our own bodies shouldn’t be shaped primarily by the opinions of others.
One Calming Thing // This video from Satisfying Pleasing definitely qualifies as both. Watching the puzzle pieces slide into place is oddly calming with a great ASMR quality. It’ll calm you in 10-seconds flat.
One Zoom Thing // This light from Lume Cube is the ultimate WFH helper. Your calls will always be perfectly lit, and your videos look like they were filmed by a professional. It’s crazy how much difference having the right light makes. And best of all, it’s on sale for Prime Day.
Need more than just a simple light? You can upgrade to the Lume Cube kit, which includes a softening diffuser and colored gels. Or, if you’re producing video, this smartphone kit includes a shotgun mic with windscreen and a light.
One Snack Thing // I made some frozen raspberries with yogurt and chocolate this weekend. They were a little laborious, but totally worth it. Two tips: One, don’t make them on a 100-degree day. Two, store them in several small snack bags, otherwise you’ll eat the entire bag at once.
One Last Thing // If I have Bezos’ money, Montana would look like Wakanda.
