On Tuesday, I posted a WaPost article about the friction between childless co-workers and co-workers with children. And one of the readers, had a comment that I felt was worth sharing:
re: tension between workers with and without kids. I agree with the person saying artificial deadlines and productivity expectations are the problem, and I would go even further – management often pits employees against each other so they fight over scraps instead of just changing unrealistic goals. If everyone in the workplace put their feet down on these issues the problem would go away – which is why we all need unions, so we can advocate for ourselves collectively instead of pushing back on unfair workloads piecemeal. It’s simply not realistic to expect anyone to be as productive as they were pre pandemic, regardless of their personal life.
Eight months into the pandemic, we’re burning out. Without a light at the end of the tunnel, we need to use this time to recalibrate our expectations and remodel how we work. We don’t know how long this pandemic will last, but I think we all know that we can’t continue pretending that we can go on like it’s not happening.
If you are a veteran, active duty, or a military spouse, thank you for your service to our nation. We all owe you a debt that we could do more to repay.
In remembrance of Veterans’ Day yesterday, I wanted to share this WaPost article about the letter a WWII veteran wrote to his four-month-old son. It is a poignant and moving tribute to what is best about America. (And don’t miss the plot twist in the third paragraph of the article).
The costume department at Saturday Night Live is a marvel. To be able to recreate Vice President-Elect Harris’s outfit in just an hour and a half must have been quite and undertaking. Read all about the process on Popsugar.
Shopbop is my favorite online retailer. From inexpensive accessories to designer dresses, they have it all. Their winter sale has thousands of items for up-to 50%-off. It is not to be missed. I snapped up these under-$100 ecru designer jeans.
Need a light movie to watch this weekend? Palm Springs is a funny take on the ‘Groundhog Day’ plot line featuring two wedding guests who get stuck in a time loop. It was the most enjoyable hour-and-a-half that I’ve had in a long time. Watch the trailer.
