I’ve missed writing the #breakthings, but a daily newsletter isn’t in the cards right now. But a little something on a Friday, that I have the bandwidth to create. Here are five things I discovered, made, read, or loved this week.
One // Something to Read // I remember clearly the first time I looked in the mirror and did not see “myself.” I had just finished my first IVF cycle, and was wearing the 9 lbs that came with it in my cheeks. Acne stationed incongruously next to gray roots. Dark circles that looked like eye black. Who was this woman?
As we get older, it’s common for women to experience dysmorphia due to our changing appearance. Weight fluctuations, changes in hormone levels, and the exhaustion of having it all contribute. Hello, Gloria explains the perception shift and offers solidarity for those of us who are neither young nor old.
Two // OPI Repair Mode // Bare nails are apparently a hit for summer. So if you’re too undisciplined for regular manicures, ladies, this is our moment! But if you’ve been wearing gel or acrylics and your natural nails need some assistance, OPI’s Repair Mode is for you.
This bond-building serum heals the damage of manicures past. Heal the breakage and make your nails stronger in just 6-days. Add in my favorite Dior Cuticle Creme and you’re all set. {purchasing through affiliate links earns commission for the author}
Three // Picking Produce // Summer produce can be divine, but if you don’t know how to pick the right watermelon, avocado, tomato, or peaches, it can also be blech. Real Simple has an A-to-Z guide to picking produce just in time for summer. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go hunt down a watermelon with an orange field spot.
Four // A Packable Sun Hat // The sun is the enemy of those of us who use retinol. And I can buy all the SPF I want, but there is nothing better than a hat for keeping the sun off of my face.
Nordstrom has the best affordable sun hats. This tan one is my current favorite. I also bought a straw visor to wear when I do yard work. {purchasing through affiliate links earns commission for the author}
Five // A Fun Salad Topping // I like to pretend that I enjoy eating salad. At least in the summer. But I would much rather be eating a cheeseburger. Luckily, I can dress up summer salads with fun ingredients that give me a more substantial experience.
This Doritos Furikake from Food52 is easy to make and customize. You can also add it to rice bowls, which are a great way to use up leftovers. Other salad toppings? Crispy chickpeas, roasted vegetables, cooked grains, lightly grilled stone fruits, or cereal (yep, cereal).
